Virtual Virginia Tech School of Turfgrass Ecology and Management (VT-STEM)

The virtual Virginia Tech School of Turfgrass Ecology and Management (VT‐STEM) returns for year 2 and will begin the week of November 7. The school features 13 weeks of training by way of recorded presentations by VT faculty and staff in all areas of turfgrass management, access to book chapters specifically written to the week’s study materials, access to a Wednesday night Zoom session for Q/A with the VT Turf Team members leading that week’s topic (7‐9 p.m. eastern), pre‐and post‐training quizzes thru VT’s student learning system ‘Canvas’, and access to the online Certified Fertilizer Applicator training and testing program. All students that become CFA’s and pass all 13 weeks of post‐training quizzes can sit for the Certified Turfgrass Professional Exams upon completion of VT‐STEM in mid‐February, all of which are now offered on‐line. The cost is $515 per person. The intended audience is anyone desiring a refresher in turfgrass science and/or turfgrass industry employees with little to no formal turfgrass science training. The training is intended for all segments of the turfgrass industry and in year one we had representatives from golf, sports turf, lawn care, sod production, and industry sales all represented.
