Chris Dieter of Rock Harbor Golf shares his experience with Spotted Lanternfly
We have extensive lanternfly at Rock Harbor.
The USDA had been monitoring them in the area and came in and sprayed every tree they could find.
The invasive tree Ailanthus, tree of heaven, is a key site to find them, as well as maple trees.
I recommend Superintendents contact their local USDA office to help with control. Golf Courses are a good location to act as “bait” areas to attract and kill these bugs, which also keeps them away from crop areas.
If any superintendents want more information they are free to contact me at chrisdieter@rockharborgolf.com.
